Saint Roch (on 1295 - 1326), Patron saint of villervillais, fought against the plague. By saving pestiférés, he(it) caught himself(itself) the disease, that is why we see him(it) regularly represented with his(her,its) dog (licking its wounds) and his(her,its) stick. He(it) was canonized to the council of Constance at the beginning of the XVth century, then was the object of a universal dedication.

The Church Notre-Dame de Villerville shelters a wooden statue of the XIXth century, representing Saint Roch. 

Been born in the Farm of the Sheepfold of farmers' family, is baptized in the Church Our Lady de Villerville. He(it) is a part of these priests who refused to deny their convictions during the Terror. Imprisoned in Paris, he(it) is executed on September 2nd, 1792. The Pope Pie XI canonizes him(it) in 1926 and a commemorative tablet, sealed in the tower of the bell tower of the church, calls back(reminds) its sacrifice.  

The current castle was built in 1769 for Master Labbey de Gonneville. 

Curious: the wall of the kitchen garden contains, every 80 cms, at a height of 1,60m bones taken in the masonry and overtaking slightly! It is about bone of sheeps, supply by the Lord, to attach gaulettes maintaining fruit trees. A bone is rotproof, while the iron ties make rusty(rust), and the wood rots …
